Finding myself with an unexpected free evening in Leeds, I popped over to the Josephs Well where unknowns "Near Meth Experience" were playing a free gig, to a surprisingly large crowd. People had come from all over this black planet to hear them, there was even a sister down from Edinburgh, though we wished someone would have mercy on the over-heated crowd and provide some ventilation, it was damned hot in the venue. The gig itself was an impressive vision thing, the first half being dominated by huge swathes of smoke and some impressive lighting, through which the somewhat Eldritch band-members swirled dimly in and out of view.
Over all a very fine performance, good sound, great music, and the crowd were certainly well up for it, sweat-dripping hordes rampaging back and forth in front of the stage in time to the dark and powerful beats.
Can the Josephs Well double as the Temple of Love? Only time will tell.
Pictures are from my mobile, so no great quality, but I think they catch the atmosphere.
