Welcome to the Chateau de Vaux le Penil!

Entering the venue itself was an eye-opening experience, with the main stage being housed in a lovely neo-classical pile, possibly a former orangery, while traders, beer tents, and a well-organised barbecue occupied either side of a wide lawn facing the building. The main chatteau was out of sight beyond a bank of trees, but still accessible, and we had the freedom to wander over a large part of the estate. It was a truly magnificent setting for what proved to be a truly magnificent event!

Didn't I see this lot at Gotham?

Shortly after arriving I got chatting to these Cruxshadows fans from Germany, who'd driven down for the gig the previous day. I like the idea of unofficial "Quote" t-shirts!

Wandering into the venue itself found the
Tors of Dartmoor on stage, they played a
dark, heavy and atmospheric sound, and it
sounded very good indeed!

Why can't we have venues like this in the UK?

I'm not a Goth, honest!

All the traders were really friendly, from these two
I bought a pair of lace-and-chain gloves for m'lady.

And then we got word that Inkubus Sukkubus had arrived, and headed back-stage, where we got a truly enthusiastic welcome from the band. Needless to say, the party was by now well and truly under way!

Watch out, Rob's got hold of the wine,
while Jaymz and Candia have the Jaegermeister!
